FAQ:

  • A safety audit is a detailed inspection of your property — home, rental, or business — to identify hazards, code issues, or emergency readiness gaps. We check things like fire risks, exit access, smoke/CO alarms, wildfire exposure, defensible space, and more.

You receive a written report, photos, and a clear list of what to fix — plus a certificate if applicable.

  • At Rubicon Ready, we don’t just "eyeball" safety — we perform every audit and inspection using recognized fire, safety, and emergency management codes that protect your people, property, and liability.

Here’s what we use — and why it matters:

International Fire Code (IFC): The IFC is the gold standard adopted by most cities and fire departments. Aligning with these codes improves your fire marshal inspections, insurance eligibility, and real-world fire safety readiness.

NFPA Standards (National Fire Protection Association): NFPA standards are utilized by fire marshals, OSHA inspectors, and insurance professionals. We check for compliance-level issues that many general safety inspectors miss, helping you avoid costly violations or claims denial.

FEMA & Ready.gov Guidelines: These guidelines ensure your home or business is prepared for real-world disruptions — from power outages to wildfires to earthquakes — not just everyday code compliance.

Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) & Firewise USA Standards: Utah's growing fire risk means homes and businesses near wildlands must meet defensible space guidelines. Our reports can support your insurance, real estate, or mitigation grant needs.

OSHA & Local Building Codes: Safety compliance protects your team, your guests, and your ability to stay open and insured. We help small businesses meet both code and practical risk standards.

  • Rubicon Ready was founded by a retired firefighter/paramedic with over 20 years of frontline emergency experience. We are fully insured and operate as a third-party safety and readiness consultant.

While Utah doesn’t require a specific state license for general safety audits, we follow national best practices and local codes. For wildfire defensible space, our assessments align with NFPA 1144, International Fire Code, Firewise USA, and Utah Forestry guidelines.

  • The name Rubicon comes from the point of no return, and we believe that real preparation should be the point of no return. Once you’ve seen what’s at risk and what you can fix, you’ll never settle for “safe enough” again.

  • Yes — in most cases. Our reports are written to be easily understood by underwriters and agents, and include defensible space findings, home safety risk notes, and documentation.

We also partner with local agents to ensure our documentation supports your renewal, rate negotiation, or proof-of-readiness.

  • City inspections are code-based and often limited to one area (e.g. smoke detectors or fire extinguishers). Rubicon Ready looks at real-world risks: cluttered exits, wildfire brush hazards, blocked driveways, extension cord use, ceiling tiles, emergency supplies, child safety, and more.

We help you prevent problems — not just pass code.

    • Homes & short-term rentals: ~60–90 minutes

    • Wildfire assessments: ~45–90 minutes

    • Small businesses: 1–2 hours, depending on size

We’ll walk the space together, note key findings, and send your report within 48 hours.
